FOR TEACHERS, EVERYWHERE

A free teaching assistant, right in your WhatsApp

Lesson plans, worksheets, marking help, and after hours support for your learners. No app to install, no cost, no catch. Just message Luma the way you message anyone else.

We are on a mission to make education better for everyone: quality learning for every child, and quality resources for every teacher. Free for both, always.

OUR PROMISE TO TEACHERS

Teachers will never be replaced. They will get their time back.

AI can draft a lesson plan. It cannot notice the quiet child at the back of the class, or turn a hard morning into a breakthrough. That part is yours, and it always will be. We build Luma to carry the admin, the planning, the marking, and the paperwork, so you can spend more of your day doing the work only a teacher can do: inspiring children.

What Luma does for you

A free teaching assistant in your pocket, built for real classrooms, including crowded ones.

Lesson planning

Ask for a lesson plan or worksheet draft on any topic. Luma drafts, and you shape it into something only you could teach.

Learner support

Your learners can ask Luma questions after hours, so fewer children sit stuck at home and fewer late-night messages land on you.

Marking help

Get a head start on marking and written feedback. Luma suggests, and you decide every mark that counts.

Your time back

Less admin, more teaching. The whole point is more of your energy for the children in front of you.

Things teachers ask Luma

There is no special command to learn. Ask the way you would ask a helpful colleague, in your own words.

Plan a Grade 9 lesson on photosynthesis for a class of 60

Make a 10 question quiz on fractions, with a memo

Explain the causes of World War 1 in simple language

Write a worksheet on balancing equations, with answers

Suggest an activity to teach place value with no materials

Draft a parent letter about next term's excursion

Start in three steps

It takes about a minute, and it is free from the first message.

1

Say hello on WhatsApp

Tap the button below, or save Luma's number and send a message like you would to anyone else.

2

Tell Luma you are a teacher

Mention what you teach and which grades, so the help you get fits your classroom instead of a generic one.

3

Ask for what you need

A lesson plan, a worksheet, a quiz, or help explaining a tricky topic. Ask for changes until it is right for your learners.

Support across your subjects

Tap a subject to open WhatsApp and ask Luma for resources. Teaching something that is not listed? Ask anyway, Luma covers far more than we can fit here.

BUILD LUMA WITH US

What challenges do you face in your classroom?

We want to build Luma with teachers, not just for them. You know what really happens in a classroom, and we do not want to guess. Tell us what makes teaching hard, and how you would like Luma to help.

Not sure what to write? Start with one of these:

  • What takes up most of your time, apart from teaching?
  • Which topics do your learners find hardest?
  • What does your school need more of?
  • What do you wish Luma could do for you?
Tell us your challenges

You share your challenges by joining the Luma Contributors in the form below. Joining is free, wherever you teach, and there is no minimum commitment.

Three more ways you can help

Choose one, all three, or none at all. Telling us about your classroom already helps.

Share your materials

Send us lesson plans, worksheets, notes, or past papers you have made or have permission to share. They can reach learners who may have nothing like them, and you will always be credited.

Help us check lessons

When we start sending AI-drafted lessons in your subject, be one of the first educators to check them and tell us what needs fixing. Your professional judgment will make Luma's lessons better.

Lend us your languages

Help translate learning content, or check that a translation sounds right to a real speaker. Every language you speak can open a door for a child who learns best in it.

Become a Luma Contributor

Luma Contributors are teachers and other educators who want to help us build Luma. Tell us about your classroom and the challenges you face, and choose any ways you would like to help. It takes about three minutes.

Your challenges and ideas

Optional. Big or small, tell us in your own words, in any language you like. To send it, please also fill in your details below.

Please leave out learners' names and other personal details.

Frequently asked questions

Is Luma really free?

Yes. Luma is free for teachers, learners, and schools, and so is being a Luma Contributor. No trials, no subscriptions, no hidden fees. Your mobile network may still charge for the data WhatsApp uses, as it does for any message.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Luma works inside WhatsApp, on the phone you already carry, so there is no app to download, no login to remember, and no training needed. If you can send a WhatsApp message, you can use Luma.

Does Luma work for my curriculum and country?

Luma started in South Africa and knows the curriculum there best. Teachers in other countries can still use it for the many topics that most curricula share. We are working on support for more curricula, and we want local teachers to guide that work. Wherever you teach, you are welcome to join the Luma Contributors. If Luma does not know your curriculum well yet, tell us in the form.

What about my learners' privacy?

We take it seriously. Luma is POPIA-first by design, and we do not sell anyone's data. When you tell us about your classroom, please leave out learners' names. If you have questions about your school's rules, send them to us through our Contact page.

What do you do with the challenges I tell you about?

We save your answer and share it with the Luma Learn team. It helps us decide what to build and fix next. We cannot build every idea, but we would much rather hear yours than guess.

What happens after I sign up?

We send you a welcome email as soon as you sign up. If you cannot find it, check your spam folder. Already signed up? You do not need to fill in the form again. Just reply to your welcome email.

How much time does it take?

As much or as little as you have. Teaching is demanding enough, so there is no minimum, no schedule, and no pressure. The boxes on the form are invitations, not requirements. You might send a worksheet once a term, check a few lessons when we start sending them, or just tell us what your classroom needs. All of it helps.

What happens to materials I share?

You keep ownership of everything you share. We will review materials before they are used, credit you by name, and always check with you before publishing something you have sent us.

Give it a try in your next lesson

It is free, it works on the phone in your pocket, and the first lesson plan takes about a minute. See what it saves you this week, then tell us what would make it better.
